Easy Searcher Beacon Park

 beacon park
Designed to help increase avalanche awareness and safety, the Beacon Park is a great educational tool and perfect for practicing beacon and search skills.

The Easy Searcher Beacon Park is a complimentary service available daily to all visitors. Located adjacent the base station of the Alyeska Tram, just above the Tram Loop. Follow signs at the Tram base to the Beacon Park.

Simple instructions are posted next to the control panel.  By selecting “Easy,” Medium,” or “Expert” you can challenge yourself with one to six signals to search for.  Probe for each target and the Easy Searcher will sound an alert, a light will flash, and the system will track your time.  When all targets have been located the siren will sound three times.  Targets are selected at random to make each search a new experience.  The system is compatible with all 457 kHz transceivers.

Please Note: The targets are not actual beacons.  These targets are only transceivers that are wirelessly connected to the control panel.  They only function when they are connected to the Easy Searcher control panel.  Please do not dig up the targets when you locate them.

Beacon Skills are an important component of back country skills needed to access any alpine terrain.  However, the most important component is your awareness of avalanche conditions.  Please take the time to educate yourself on safe back country tactics, snow pack characteristics, route finding skills, and emergency preparedness.

SKI PATROL TIPS

  • When selecting “Easy,” if you are given two targets to search and would prefer only one, press “Reset” and then try “Easy” again.
  • When probing for the targets, be sure to give a solid strike for the system to recognize the find.
  • Remember that beacons are always recommended while riding at the resort and will greatly improve your chances of being found quickly if involved in an avalanche.
